Unlocking the Power of Drug and Vaccine Development with Genetic Data in Primate.

Pharmacogenomics is a field of study that investigates how variations in DNA affect the way humans respond to drugs. The knowledge gained from this field has led to the development of personalized medicine (PM). PM helps physicians determine the most appropriate treatment methods and reduces the risk of using ineffective or inappropriate drugs. However, before any drug and vaccine can apply in humans, they must undergo non-clinical trials first. During non-clinical trials, genetic data in primates play a crucial role in drug and vaccine development.

Primates, including monkeys and apes, are genetically similar to humans. Our most distant relative primate is 96%, and our closest relative is 99% identical to the human DNA. It is cause they are highly relevant models for many human aspects, physiology, behavior, and disease. Examples of Human infectious diseases are Hepatitis, Tuberculosis, Polio, and Chickenpox. Researchers can gain valuable insights into how these compounds may affect humans by studying how drugs and vaccines affect primates. Furthermore, the detailed genomic and genetic knowledge of NHPs is required for optimal use when explaining the disease causes and for pre-clinical testing of therapies. Thus, accounting for specific types of genetic variation when using NHPs in experiments is necessary. For example, the specific alleles of the rhesus major histocompatibility complex (MHC) have variable effects on immune responses. It can influence the results of vaccine challenges or transplantation experiments.

In today’s fast-changing world, data has become increasingly important in all aspects of life, especially in drug and vaccine development. The use of big data in pharmacogenomics and non-clinical trials has revolutionized drug development, providing vast amounts of new information on the genomes of many individual NHPs and gene expression patterns and allowing researchers to analyze large amounts of genetic data quickly and accurately. In addition, collecting genetic primate data also help researchers to optimize the use of this animal model to study complex human diseases because some researchers use extended rhesus pedigrees, coupled with next-generation sequencing. Thus, processing programs of generic data and managing data processing software will be necessary for future drug and vaccine development.

 

In conclusion, genetic data in primates play a critical role in drug and vaccine development. Researchers can gain valuable insights into the efficacy and safety of new drugs and vaccines by using primates as models for human disease. Moreover, using big data in pharmacogenomics and non-clinical trials has transformed the drug development process, providing researchers with powerful tools to optimize the use of this animal model and analyze genetic data quickly and accurately. As the world continues to embrace data-driven approaches, genetic data in primates will remain indispensable tools for drug and vaccine development.
